From the Principal

Dear Parents and Families,

Can you believe it’s already the end of Term 2? It has been a very different term with all the COVID restrictions, but the time has flown, and the children have kept growing and learning.

Reports & Learning Conversations

In week 8 you received your child’s formal Semester One report. I take great pleasure in reading all of the children’s reports, so that I can see each child’s achievements, their unique character strengths and their progressive development. I am so proud of their remarkable progress. Thank you for the time you took to read through the report with your child, they should be praised for their efforts. It’s important to focus on the positives and help your child set new goals for learning in the future. Remember, learning is an ongoing process involving risk taking, success and opportunities for growth. I trust that any questions or concerns you may have about your child’s learning were addressed at the Learning Conversation with their teacher during Week 9. Please don't hesitate to continue to stay in touch if any issues remain unresolved.

From the APRIM

Dear families,

It’s hard to believe that we are halfway through the year. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at St John the Apostle Parish School, working with Dee-anne Peters, the amazing staff and brilliant children. I feel honoured to be part of such a welcoming Catholic Community.

Each week throughout Term 2 at St John the Apostle Parish School, we have continued to celebrate Weekly Class Liturgies. We are following the same Mass Roster we put in place, pre-covid. After a number of Outdoor Liturgies, earlier in the term, classes finished the term celebrating the Liturgies in the chapel, practicing safe, social distancing.

We are looking forward to welcoming Fr Josy back to St John the Apostle on Monday 3 August to celebrate our St Dominic Mass.

1/2KL & 1/2MO

Term 2 has shown us the resilience and collegiality of our students, families and staff as a community. Our learning, teaching and communication has looked a little different, but we are glad to see all of our students back to face to face learning now.

3/4TC & 3/4WM Classes

This term has been very busy with lots of exciting activities in the Year 3/4 Unit

Earlier this term in English we looked at the ANZACS. The students were inspired, fascinated and saddened by the stories they heard of the soldiers, all of whom were heroes. We looked at poetry, comprehension of the facts of the ANZACS and we even pretended to be a soldier that had just landed at Gallipoli and writing home to their family. We really enjoyed that unit of work.

Year 5/6 Unit

The Year 5/6 unit have enjoyed a busy term of learning and engagement. During our literacy lessons we have been reading our class novel ‘Wonder’. The students have been learning about a boy named Auggie, and the difficulties he has faced as a student with his differences. The students have been very engaged over the semester, and as we near the end of the book the students will participate in a book review and then we are hoping to watch the film ‘Wonder’ released in 2018 and compare the two stories.
