Welcome New Students & Families

This term we are delighted to welcome our new Reception students, Aidan, Lexie, Jett, Carter, Courtney & Marshall and their families to our St Johns community. We also welcome Rylee and Mia in Years 5 & 3.  We trust you enjoy your time here and grow to be thriving learners.

Catholic Schools Open Week

It’s a bit unusual not being able to personally welcome visitors for Catholic Schools Open week, but thanks to Lisa Martin and the teachers we have a new video each day during the week to share with you. Please encourage anyone you know who would like to arrange a school tour to contact the school office on 8382 2064 to make a time to meet with me.

2021 Reception Transition to School starts on Friday 14th August

We welcome our newest members of the St Johns community to school this Friday. We will have the library set up for them to start exploring everything we have to offer to jump start their school education.

OSHC @ 18 Winnerah Road is OPEN!!

We started operating from our newly renovated premise at 18 Winnerah Road on Monday 3rd August. My sincere thanks to everyone who was affected by the temporary closure and reduced enrolment numbers throughout this year. Your patience and understanding is greatly appreciated. We are currently operating from 7:30-8:30am and 3:15-6:00pm each school day. I have applied to council to have the hours extended. I will keep you updated as information comes to hand. OSHC families are encouraged to use the staff carpark from drop off and pick up before and after school hours.

Stage 01 Build is nearing completion.  We are expecting to be able to start using the new facilities before the end of Term 3. I can’t wait to show you all through our state-of-the-art facilities. Again, I thank you for your patience with the interruption to our usual traffic flow before and after school, but we’ll be back to using the Carmichael Road entrance soon. Council will reinstate the parking, so please check the signs before leaving your vehicle.

COVID19 Update

Even though the Corona virus is currently relatively well contained in SA, we still need to be vigilant in our school and wider community, maintaining social distance and hygiene practices.

In the interest in positive community health, we decided to keep the practices we had in place last term. As notified at the beginning of term, parents must remain outside of the school and drop off and pick up at the Winnerah Road gate. You may wait on the hardcourt and maintain social distancing guidelines.

Dismissal times will be staggered, with Reception children dismissed from 3pm and Years 1-6 dismissed at 3.10pm. your children are fully supervised at school from 8:30am-3:30pm.

Should you need to enter the front office, please ensure there is only one adult in the office at a time.

Thank you for adhering to these practices in order to keep everyone safe and healthy. We thank our St Johns community for  continuing to support each other through these challenging times. I will notify you immediately should anything change.

The children have coped well with the changes and are calm and happy as they come into school in the mornings and throughout the day. We’ve been impressed with their independence in coming into school and settling in readily to begin their learning. I’m glad to see that parents are continuing to encourage this sense of independence and responsibility in their children.

KEEPING SICK CHILDREN HOME

If your child is unwell or displays any symptoms such as fever, cough or sore throat please do not send them to school. Not only is this an important step in these current conditions but also for the upcoming flu season. Please help us stop the spread.

Please inform the school by calling 8382 2064; you can leave a message 24/7 and remember to explain the reason for absence.

SRC

Thankyou to our semester One SRC’s and the work they started with Mr. E on setting up easier to use rubbish and recycling systems at school.

We congratulate our Semester Two SRC’s. We will formally congratulate them and induct them as leaders as soon as their badges arrive!

School Calendar

Despite COVID restrictions we are continuing to plan events for terms 3 & 4. We are aware that many events will look different due to restrictions and they may need to be cancelled at the short notice.

Please check our Website Calendar, the School Stream App and our Facebook page for regular updates. We can all look forward to a fabulous term, full of the quality learning & fun which make our community so great.

Sausage Roll Lunch- 16th September 2020

Staff Professional Learning- Pupil Free Days

On Monday 7th September, the teachers will learn more about the redesigned South Australian Catholic Religious Education (RE) Program – Crossways. As a staff we are constantly updated so that we use contemporary, inclusive approaches to all curriculum areas, including RE. The work from this day will support our teachers to effectively engage and nurture our students in their spiritual and moral growth and understandings of the world. It is so important that as a community we approach religion in a contemporary way, in dialogue with world cultures and religions so that our Catholic Identity and our Dominican Spirituality is truly one of welcome, love and truth.
